Up, Up, and Away: My First Flying Lesson Adventure

This past weekend, I had an experience that will forever remain etched in my memory. My children, Henry and Bella, surprised me with a flying lesson as part of my ongoing 50th birthday celebrations. It’s been a dream of mine to take to the skies, and they made it come true in the most spectacular fashion. Flying over the breathtaking landmarks of Northumberland, I felt an exhilarating sense of freedom and accomplishment.

The weather was perfect, with clear blue skies stretching out as far as the eye could see. As we arrived at the airfield, a rush of excitement mixed with a touch of nervousness washed over me. This was it – a bucket list item about to be ticked off. “Up, up, and away” became my motto for the day!

Taking the controls of the aircraft was both thrilling and terrifying. The instructor was incredibly supportive, guiding me through each step with patience and expertise. As we soared above the picturesque landscape, I took in the beauty of Northumberland from a whole new perspective. The rolling hills, ancient castles, and pristine coastline looked even more stunning from the sky.

This experience wasn’t just about the thrill of flying; it was also a moment of reflection. As we cruised above the clouds, I couldn’t help but think about my journey in recruitment and talent acquisition. It’s been a rollercoaster ride with its fair share of ups and downs. Being behind the controls of an airplane made me realise that, just like flying, nothing should be out of reach.

When faced with challenging days in recruitment, I’ll now remind myself of this incredible day. The fear I felt before taking off mirrors the fears we often face in business and life. But overcoming those fears and pushing beyond our comfort sones is where the magic happens. I’ve come so far in my career and personal life, and there’s still so much more to achieve.

Flying high above Northumberland, I felt an immense sense of gratitude for all the experiences that have shaped me. It’s essential to keep adding to our wish lists and aspirations because, as the saying goes, the sky’s the limit.

To everyone reading this, I hope you have a fantastic working week. Remember to embrace your dreams and never let fear hold you back. Here’s to ticking off more bucket list items and reaching new heights – both in the air and in life!
